Position Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Collaborative Services, the Group Coordinator/Facilitator is responsible for coordinating, delivering, and reporting group programming, in the following areas:  Living for Literacy, Digital Literacy, and Financial Literacy.  This position also provides support to the Supervisor, Collaborative Services, with the development of group promotional material, registration processes, ordering supplies, and supporting volunteers across a range of group programming. 

This position operates from a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach and has a strong understanding of adolescent and emerging adult development.  Programming is designed to address the needs of teen parents with children 0-6 years, supporting overall personal development, strengthening communication skills, and nurturing healthy parent and child relationships. The learner will be provided with opportunities to develop learning skills and habits that build confidence in seeing themselves as self-directed independent learner.

Please note that this position is a full-time 10 month contract position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take the lead in connecting with Terra participants using face-to-face and virtual strategies.
  • Develop relationships with participants using trauma-informed principles and provide guidance and support to volunteers in delivering services through a trauma-informed lens.
  • Develop and deliverprogramming that is designed to meet the developmental needs of both adolescents and emerging adults.
  • Provide leadership and vision in designing and implementing literacy focussed programming for young families.
  • Create promotional material (print and social media) to attract participants to Group programming in collaboration with the Communications Coordinator
  • Recruit participants for the Living for Literacy, Financial Literacy, and Digital Literacy group programs using face-to-face and virtual strategies.
  • Follow the developed curriculum that is concept-based, make improvements based on need, and ensure effective delivery of lesson plans.
  • Determine relevant capacity-building activities for program staff to facilitate literacy programming
  • In partnership with the Supervisor, Collaborative Services and Volunteer Services Coordinator recruit and support childminding staff and/or volunteers
  • Collect evaluation data using surveys, observations, participant feedback, and demographic data from all program participants
  • Provide support to Supervisor, Collaborative Services, to complete funder reports and applications
  • Participate in self-evaluation, peer evaluation and volunteer/student evaluation
  • Conduct interactions with young parents in a professional manner, maintaining healthy professional boundaries in all interactions
  • Serve as a strong advocate on behalf of Terra and its participants
  • Seek opportunities for collaboration and other methods of working cooperatively with other community agencies and partners to meet the need of participants
  • Develop and maintain an effective community referral network and resources base


  • Diploma or Degree in Early Learning and Care, Human Ecology, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related Human Service Program.
  • Suicide Prevention Training
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate dated within 6 months.
  • Police Security Clearance (CRIM) dated within 6 months.
  • Child Intervention Check (CWIS) dated within 6 months.
  • Valid Driver’s License, Insurance Coverage (with 2 million Liability), own vehicle and a clear Drivers Abstract dated within 6 months.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with group facilitation, preference is given to experience facilitating to adolescents and emerging adults
  • Experience developing and facilitating literacy programming
  • Introduction to Adult Foundational Learning
  • CALP Essentials for Family Literacy Programs 
  • Prosper Canada Financial Literacy Facilitator Training, preferred

Vaccine Policy

Salary: The salary range for the position is $37,375 – $40,625/year.  

Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution.  A Wellness Fund is allocated to staff to support their ongoing well-being.  Staff have three weeks vacation, and, in addition, the agency is closed between Christmas and New Years.
