SALARY RANGE: $23.36 – $27.48/hour

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week including evenings and weekends. Casual and part time also available

This is a temporary position until March 31, 2021.

Job Purpose:

This mobile team is responsible for primary health care interventions and overdose response with individuals accessing an emergency homeless centre. The work occurs in a harm reduction/health promotion context, and includes maintaining positive connections with community partners. 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide front line service and be a community partner
  • Deliver formal and informal services in the areas of general health assessment and care, overdose prevention, wound care, COVID response and potentially immunizations, STI testing and treatment
  • Work with community partners as a consultant, educator and collaborator
  • Build relationships and provide services to help people without stable housing to engage and support their individual capacity to take charge of their own lives and health
  • Provide support and mentorship to other team members
  • Emergency response including overdose resuscitation, first aid, and triaging people to access further health interventions

Qualifications:

Education:

Completion of an accredited Healthcare Provider (LPN, PCP) and registered with the corresponding regulatory body. Will consider EMR candidate with the combination of training and experience.

  • Ability to work in a highly stressful and ever changing environment
  • Must have excellent boundaries
  • Mental resiliency is key
  • Able to work non-judgmentally with a wide range of people who have multiple barriers to accessing care,  within a Harm Reduction framework
  • Able to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities, strong problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge, experience or willingness to learn of substance use and culture, overdose prevention, sex trade, STIs and blood borne pathogens, and inner city lives
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in an Indigenous cultural context
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction
  • Familiarity with local community resources (e.g. substance use, social services, justice)
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary, dynamic team setting
  • Ability to work in partnership with other organizations
  • Flexibility, creativity, enthusiasm and non-judgmental attitude
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Plan and execute documentation and evaluation

Experience and other requirements:

  • Experience working with marginalized communities is an asset
  • Required to have current BCLS certification
  • Criminal Record and Child Intervention Checks (results will be reviewed on a case by case basis)

Location of work: Based at a new facility for homeless individuals in downtown Edmonton
