Bridge Housing Support Worker

HOURLY RANGE:  $22.40-$26.36/hour

HOURS: 37.5 hours weekly, hours to be determined by the needs of the program

Please note this is a six-month position with the possibility for extension.

Job Purpose:

This program is designed to connect individuals sleeping rough to safe, secure and accessible bridge housing options, namely motels/hotels, and to support them for the duration of their stay. This position will assist tenants with meeting daily needs and maintaining their temporary accommodations while supporting them with system navigation as they work towards permanent housing.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Build relationships and rapport with people sleeping rough who are referred for bridge housing with this program
  • Assess barriers and needs and assist, support, and advocate on behalf of the tenants
  • Facilitate connections to Housing First Housing Outreach Workers and assist with the housing process including providing tenants with reminders for viewings, apartments, completing applications etc.
  • Coordinate with hotel staff to ensure a safe and secure living environment
  • Maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders
  • Assist with daily living skills including room cleanliness and organization, meals, etc.
  • Coordinate referrals to other support services including Alberta Supports, Homecare, Cultural programming, etc.  
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed; including follow-up services once crisis situation has stabilized
  • Maintain detailed case notes, regular assessment, documentation, and files to track outcomes
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager/Team Lead

Qualifications:

Education:

Diploma or Degree in Human Services field. Candidates without a degree but who have post-secondary education and relevant and related experience will also be considered.

  • Able to communicate effectively and have excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Able to plan and make decisions in a timely, organized and appropriate manner 
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Power Point) 

Experience:

  • Knowledge of evidence based practices, harm reduction principles, motivational interviewing skills and cognitive behavioral techniques.
  • Understanding and appreciation of the history of Canada’s Indigenous people, and their culture
  • Experience of networking with a range of partners and stakeholders
  • Local travel on behalf of clients and the agency is required and a valid class 5 license and reliable vehicle are required
  • Criminal Record and Child Intervention Checks (results will be reviewed on a case by case)
