Job Overview and Conditions:

Reporting to the Manager Early Childhood Development the Early Childhood Educator works 35 hours/week (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM). This is a temporary full-time position from December to June with the possibility of an extension. The Early Childhood Educator works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to co-create responsive environments that value play as a learning process and nurtures children’s well-being. Early childhood educators work within a practice of relationship with the whole family to share and generate ideas to learn more about their children.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build trusting and supportive relationships with children and families.
  • Honor families in the life of the child.
  • Engage in practices that honor children as mighty learners and citizens
  • Plan and implement programming in collaboration with team to ensure each child’s developmental needs and emerging interests are supported.
  • Engage parent and child(ren) in activities that strengthen their relationship.
  • Engage with children and families in events that support their connection to community.
  • Participate in the model of co-inquiry process (observation, documentation, reflection, planning and implementation) with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Document children’s learning experience through formats that include learning stories, project documentation using multiple perspectives- children, co-educators, and family
  • Incorporate cultural factors in the planning and delivering of programming
  • Actively participate in continuous professional development
  • Provide mentoring support to teen parent families.
  • Work in collaboration with agency programs and community partners in the best interest of the family.
  • Provide operational supports for the continuity of programming for children and families
  • Serve as an advocate for children and families.
  • Conduct required program related assessments, evaluations, and reports.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • COVID-19 vaccinations are mandatory for all Terra staff, volunteers, and contractors.  Successful candidates will be required to agree to comply with Terra mandatory vaccine policy and provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of their employment before commencement.
  • Early Childhood Educator level 3 Certification is required
  • Brain Story Certification considered an asset (AFWI).
  • Trauma-informed Care Training considered an asset
  • Completion of the MacEwan Flight Course (Exploring Early Childhood Curriculum) considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of pedagogical documentation process considered an asset.
  • Experience working with children 0-3 years.
  • Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds
  • A current (within last 6 month) Criminal Record Check and CWIS Record Check are required
  • Current Childcare CPR & First Aid certificate
  • Must be at least 18 years old

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Alberta Early Learning and Care Curriculum Framework (Flight)
  • Knowledge of Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Regulations
  • Knowledge of Alberta Nutritional Guidelines for Children and Youth

Vaccine Policy

Salary: $37,915 – $42,660 (Dependent on experience)
