Family Outreach Worker

Job Overview

The Family Outreach Program assists young moms and dads in their development of positive parenting skills to foster healthy parent child relationships. Through home visits, community outreach and group programming, participants are supported to make healthy choices for themselves and their children and to develop their capacity to effectively meet the needs of their children..

Job Conditions

The Family Outreach Worker positions are Temporary Full time 18 month maternity leave and Permanent Full time. Both positions are 37.5 hours/week with flexible hours: the office is open from 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday however hours of work will vary based on the needs of families and staff, and will include some evening and occasional weekend support for programming.

Responsibility

  • Meet with families regularly to provide parenting education and support; guidance in adapting to the role of parenting; child development information; custody and access support; career and life skills planning; community linkages and referrals.
  • Participate in planning group activities for families.
  • Conduct advocacy on behalf of and with young families.
  • Participate in interagency collaboration and service planning.
  • Collect data, measure outcomes, and complete evaluation activities as required using the ETO database.

Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in human services;
  • Experience working with youth and expertise in assessing client strengths and needs and in developing goals with youth/families;
  • The ability to develop and deliver individual or group programs that enhance basic life skills;
  • Strong communication skills that ensure effective communication;
  • Strong computer skills; previous experience using a database;
  • Ability to work flexible hours;
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle to transport clients and children (class 5);
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check that are dated within 90 Days of the start date

Salary Range: $41,500-46,500/year based on education and experience.  Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution
