Job Purpose:

The Volunteer Coordinator- External will build, manage and grow an external volunteer program that supports programs and services offered at Boyle Street Community Services. 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create a robust external volunteer program that supports the various programs and services provided by the organization.
• Promote the program to attract potential volunteers
• Recruit and select appropriate volunteers to fill predetermined volunteer positions supporting programs and services across the organization.
• Orientate, train and familiarize external volunteers with Boyle Street Community Services, its organizational philosophy and program offerings.
• Manage the scheduling, performance, and review of external volunteers.
• Create, manage and maintain a comprehensive volunteer information system.
• Track, review and report on the KPIs of the external volunteer program.
• Work alongside Ambassador Engagement Coordinator to deepen relationships and engagement of external volunteers with the organization.

Qualifications:

Education: Post-secondary education in a related field. Voluntary management, human resources or non-profit administration is preferred. Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered.

Skills, Abilities and Attitudes:

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and sometimes demanding environment.
• Ability to coordinate and contribute external volunteers to multiple campaigns at one time.
• Ability to problem solve and creatively navigate challenging and/or unforeseen situations.
• Impeccable interpersonal and communication skills; communicating clearly, both in writing and verbally, to build enthusiasm and convey innovative ideas, as well as to develop trust as you cultivate relationships with clients, coworkers and volunteers.
• Ability to achieve results while being resourceful and displaying a strong desire to take initiative.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Experience:

• At least 1 year of experience in volunteer management, fundraising or other development related positions.
• Experience managing or coordinating volunteers and projects is preferred.
• Experience working in the inner-city and/or non-profit sector is an asset
• Experience and knowledge or working with a diverse community, including First Nations, Metis, Inuit, and Indigenous cultures
• Familiarity and knowledge of issues concerning homelessness, poverty, addiction, and Indigenous communities
• Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
• Criminal Record and Child Intervention Checks (results will be reviewed on a case by case basis)
