There are 2 temporary positions until March 31, 2021.

Job Purpose:

The Van Driver is responsible for driving the Streetworks (needle exchange) van along with a regular Streetworks staff member as a passenger.  Adherence to COVID infection protocols is critical.

  • Collect the van from its parking place, and with regular staff, deliver harm reduction supplies to clients who phone or flag down the vehicle.
  • Ensure van is secure and keys/clicker safely stored
  • Ensure the van has gas and oil as needed. Keep the van clean and stocked
  • General maintenance of the vehicle
  • Report issues with the vehicle
  • Contribute to statistics collection


Education: Completion of Grade 12

Skills, Abilities and Attitudes:

  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Must have excellent boundaries
  • Mental resiliency is key. Ability to maintain calmness and a “cool head” in an emergency
  • Able to work non-judgmentally with people who may be using substances within a Harm Reduction framework
  • Knowledge, experience or willingness to learn of substance use and culture, overdose prevention, sex trade, STIs and blood borne pathogens, and inner city lifestyles
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Flexibility, creativity, enthusiasm and non-judgmental attitude

Experience and other requirements:

  • Required to have current BCLS certification
  • Valid Class 5 Non GDL Driver’s license
  • Criminal Record and Child Intervention Checks (results will be reviewed on a case by case basis)

Location of work: Based at the Community Centre (10116 105 Ave NW) and in the community
