Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre is an Edmonton based non-profit organization that has been supporting children and families since 1963, with a vision of Healthy Children, Healthy Families, Healthy Communities. Our programs and services are designed to strengthen and enrich families with children birth – 6 years old. Early childhood experiences are aimed at fostering optimal child development and healthy parent-child attachment.  Parent education opportunities are created to support building the capacity of families.  Family support services are provided to support families as the child’s first and most important teacher.  Information and referral is a key practice in supporting families to grow and learn within their own communities.  Programs are delivered using a holistic approach to support the social, emotional, intellectual, language, physical and creative needs of children and families in the community.  For more information, visit https://www.norwoodcentre.com.

The Office Support Technical Assistant provides support for the Norwood administration team and program staff, and supports the overall Agency to meet COVID protocols.

This position requires a flexible work schedule that may occasionally include evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the families.

This is a Canada Summer Jobs position of approximately 8-12 weeks.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Office Support Technical Assistant is responsible for the following:

  • Answering, screening and forwarding incoming phone calls
  • Greeting visitors and answering basic inquiries about the Agency’s services and programs and/or referring questions to the appropriate staff and/or services in the community
  • Providing administrative support to staff, i.e., filing, printing, and collating documents, booking appointments, laminating, building reference binders, etc.
  • Registering participants for groups and Agency events
  • Gathering necessary supplies, and preparing resources for families and children in programs
  • Cleaning and sanitizing to meet COVID protocols

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Meet the Canada Summer Jobs youth eligibility requirements:
    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
    • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment; and,
    • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Competent navigating the Internet, and using MS Office, particularly Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent multitasking skills and able to stay calm in a busy environment
  • An enthusiasm for engaging with people and excellent customer service skills
  • Comfortable working with children and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Record Check (findings will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis)

The wage for this role is $17.46 per hour.
