Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre is an Edmonton based non-profit organization that has been supporting children and families since 1963, with a vision of Healthy Children, Healthy Families, Healthy Communities. Our programs and services are designed to strengthen and enrich families with children birth – 6 years old. Early childhood experiences are aimed at fostering optimal child development and healthy parent-child attachment.  Parent education opportunities are created to support building the capacity of families.  Family support services are provided to support families as the child’s first and most important teacher.  Information and referral are a key practice in supporting families to grow and learn within their own communities.  Programs are delivered using a holistic approach to support the social, emotional, intellectual, language, physical and creative needs of children and families in the community.  For more information, visit https://www.norwoodcentre.com.

The Marketing and Communications Assistant supports communications for the agency through the creation of content that reflects the work of the agency.  This position works with the Marketing and Communications Manager to ensure that Norwood is promoted effectively to other agencies and the community at large.  This position has a wide variety of responsibilities within the scope of marketing and communications to ensure that the objectives are achieved.

Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Marketing and Communications Assistant is responsible for the following:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of the agency’s communication strategy.
  • Updating the agency website, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) best practices.
  • Creating social media content, maintaining content calendar.
  • Contributing to social media strategy, monitoring, measurement, and reporting.
  • Preparing and distributing monthly e-newsletters.
  • Laying out print materials such as monthly newsletter, program guide, flyers, posters, etc.
  • Creating/organizing/retrieving digital assets such as photos, videos, animations, presentations.
  • Collaborating with Norwood team members to ensure full understanding and knowledge of Norwood’s programs and services.
  • Assisting the communication team to create key messages to effectively communicate with peers, funders, donors, stakeholders, politicians, and media etc.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, digital marketing, or visual design.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a strong eye for detail.
  • Strong organization skills, ability to balance priorities and multiple projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with peers, funders, donors, partners, stakeholders.
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign, MS Office including PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of/aptitude for web content management, SEO and web analytics.
  • Skills in visual design, photography and video editing.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Record Check (findings will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis).

The following qualifications are considered an asset:

  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

The starting hourly range for this role is $22.78-$25.63/hour ($41,459.60-$46,646.60 per year) based on a 35-hour week.
