Family Educator

Norwood Child & Family Resource Centre

This is a Full-time position in Edmonton posted August 8, 2017.

Norwood Child & Family Resource Centre provides support for families raising young children in the Central Edmonton area. Norwood adopts a holistic approach to clients addressing the complex needs of families living within the local community.

This position primarily provides parent and adult education opportunities as well as parent and child groups. Norwood uses a strength-based model of service delivery acknowledging client resilience while supporting vulnerabilities. In this position, you will be responsible for relationship-building with families, group program facilitation, new program development as indicated by community/family needs and providing information and supported referrals to community based resources and services.

The position requires a flexible work schedule including daytime, some evening and Saturday shifts. This is an one year term position.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Education in Early Childhood Development, Education, Health or the Human Services Field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in group facilitation
  • A thorough working knowledge of community resources
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of early child development and parenting practices
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Solid computer proficiency in Word, Outlook, and the ability to work both independently and within a large
    multidisciplinary team environment
  • Current First Aid certification
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable insured vehicle

The starting pay band for this position is $21.73 to $24.45 per hour.


  • Triple P and ASQ certification
  • Financial Literacy Facilitation Training
  • Familiarity with ETO database practices
  • Trauma-Informed Practice and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
  • Knowledge of Maternal Health and Pre-Natal Services
