Norwood Child & Family Resource Centre is looking for a personable, enthusiastic, skilled, flexible, child and family oriented individual for our Kitchen Team.

Reporting to the Kitchen Supervisor, the Cook Assistant will provide assistance in meal planning and the preparation and appetizing delivery of snacks and meals to children, families and other agency participants.  The Cook Assistant will assist the Kitchen Team in maintaining health and hygienic standards and practices of the agency, the food services industry, and the capital health authority.  In addition, the Cook Assistant will also provide assistance for the preparation and delivery of Cooking Groups and other special events, an opportunity for families and the community to learn more about food preparation and proper nutrition.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Journeyman cooking certificate/diploma and/or food preparation certificate, or have a related combination of education/training and experience
  • Knowledge of the Canada Food Guide and nutrition that supports children’s healthy development
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds would be an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working in a team environment
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office and willingness to work with databases
  • A current Criminal Record Check and CWIS Record Check
  • A current First Aid Certificate would be an asset

The starting salary for this role is $19.48 to $21.91 per hour based on a 35-hour week.

This position requires a flexible work schedule that includes some evenings and weekend shifts. Hours of operation are Monday thru Friday 9:00am-8:15pm and Saturdays 9:00am-4:30pm.
