Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre is an Edmonton based non-profit organization that has been supporting children and families since 1963, with a vision of Healthy Children, Healthy Families, Healthy Communities. Our programs and services are designed to strengthen and enrich families with children birth – 6 years old. Early childhood experiences are aimed at fostering optimal child development and healthy parent-child attachment.  Parent education opportunities are created to support building the capacity of families.  Family support services are provided to support families as the child’s first and most important teacher.  Information and referral is a key practice in supporting families to grow and learn within their own communities.  Programs are delivered using a holistic approach to support the social, emotional, intellectual, language, physical and creative needs of children and families in the community.  For more information, visit https://www.norwoodcentre.com.

The Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator coordinates communications for the agency while engaging with the community.  This position works closely with program leadership to ensure that the agency is promoted effectively to other agencies and the community at large.  This position has a wide variety of responsibilities within the scope of communications and engagement to ensure that the objectives are achieved.

This position requires a flexible work schedule which includes occasional evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the families.

Reporting to the Program Director, the Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator is responsible for the following:

  • Guiding the development of the communication strategy which includes website, social media, print materials, internal and external communications to ensure high standards, consistency, accuracy and effectiveness are achieved, and that all communications align with Norwood’s Vision and Mission
  • Developing and implementing the process for promotion materials in all relevant communication platforms to support Norwood’s communication plan
  • Developing and maintaining key relationships with organizations to promote Norwood’s community profile
  • Promoting Norwood’s programs and services to increase involvement
  • Participating in the implementation of the Strategic and Operational Plans
  • Fostering strong, long-term relationships with donors, collaborators, sponsors, and community stakeholders
  • Developing relationships within the community to increase awareness of, and engagement with Norwood’s programs and services
  • Collaborating with Norwood team members to ensure full understanding and knowledge of Norwood’s programs and services

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing, supplemented by related work experience
  • 2-4 years’ experience in marketing and communications
  • Proven experience in delivering effective and engaging communications
  • Experience with social media and social media analytics tools
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with peers, funders, donors, stakeholders and media
  • Ability to balance priorities and multiple projects
  • Ability to engage with all levels of partnering organizations, including community committees and local governance
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Record Check (findings will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis)

The following qualifications are considered an asset:

  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

The starting hourly range for this role is $25.48 to $28.67 per hour ($46,373-$52,179 per year) based on a 35-hour week.
