Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre is an Edmonton based non-profit organization that has been supporting children and families since 1963, with a vision of Healthy Children, Healthy Families, Healthy Communities. Our programs and services are designed to strengthen and enrich families with children birth – 6 years old. Early childhood experiences are aimed at fostering optimal child development and healthy parent-child attachment.  Parent education opportunities are created to support building the capacity of families.  Family support services are provided to support families as the child’s first and most important teacher.  Information and referral is a key practice in supporting families to grow and learn within their own communities.  Programs are delivered using a holistic approach to support the social, emotional, intellectual, language, physical and creative needs of children and families in the community.  For more information, visit https://www.norwoodcentre.com.

The Administrative Assistant provides reception support for the Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre and administrative support for Agency staff. As one of the first people that visitors and participants meet at the Agency, the Administrative Assistant models the values of the Agency through a friendly, compassionate and professional manner.

This position requires a flexible work schedule that includes evenings to 6:30 pm approximately once per week, and very occasional evenings to 8:15 pm.

Reporting to the Operations Team Lead, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for the following:

  • Answering, screening and forwarding incoming phone calls
  • Greeting visitors and answering basic inquiries about the Agency’s services and programs and/or referring questions to the appropriate staff and/or services in the community
  • Registering participants for groups and Agency events
  • Providing administrative support to staff, i.e. faxing, typing minutes, printing and collating documents, booking appointments, laminating, building reference binders, creating promotional materials, etc.
  • Coordinating internal IT Equipment bookings and providing basic IT troubleshooting technology assistance as requested
  • Compiling and entering necessary data and documentation into agency and collaborative data systems while maintaining accurate, timely and complete electronic and paper files
  • Receiving, sorting and distributing daily mail/deliveries

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Certificate in Office Administration or an equivalent program
  • Minimum of  2 years’ experience in a busy reception or office administration environment
  • Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Publisher)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Expertise with accurate data entry and the ability to navigate around databases
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Record Check (findings will be reviewed on a case by case basis)

The starting hourly range for this role is $22.78-$25.63 per hour ($41,459-$46,646 per year) based on a 35-hour week.
