Independence Apartments is a Community Based Residential Facility owned and operated by the Edmonton John Howard Society. We provide support to male federal offenders transitioning from incarceration to community living. Our partnership with Disability Services and the Canadian Border Services Agency allows us to house and support clients who are unable to live independently and/or are awaiting deportation. Your role is to support these clients in developing life skills and preparing them for their eventual return to community living.


  • Direct Supervision and Management of clients in the following programs; Community Case Management and Supervision- Mandatory Residency program and the Disability Services program
  • Conduct CCMS and PDD file reviews and interview referrals to determine suitability/eligibility to the program
  • Completion of accurate written documentation, data collection/entry, intakes and assessments, file maintenance and reviews
  • Client support including transportation of clients, attend professional meetings, assist with grocery shopping, participate in leisure activities, etc.
  • Assist clients with the development and maintenance of life skills
  • Develop SMART goals with clients to create a Resident Action and Transition Plan for duration of their residency
  • Liaise with Parole Officers, Edmonton City Police, Canadian Border Services Agency, Immigration Review Board, Disability Services and various other treatment professionals
  • Assist office staff with shift duties and shift coverage
  • Must be available to work a weekend on call rotation every 6-8 weeks
  • General security tasks; security rounds, monitoring security cameras, completing room searches etc. 

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Degree or Diploma in human services filed with related experience
  • Clear Criminal Record Check, Enhanced Reliability Screening, CBSA Screening
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • Vehicle required for transportation of clients; proof of valid driver’s licence, registration and insurance covering vehicle and passengers ($2,000,000 liability), Certificate of Motor Vehicle Insurance form and drivers abstract
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including clients with mental health challenges
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and Community Resources
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in a team environment

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position is based out of a Community Based Residential Facility
  • Hours of work are Sunday-Thursday from 11:00AM to 7:00PM. Shift times may be flexible and will be dependent on program requirements
  • This position requires frequent standing, walking up and down stairs, and occasional lifting

Salary: The starting salary range is $43,000 annually.
