Edmonton John Howard Society (EJHS) is a CARF accredited, community based not for profit crime prevention agency that has been operating in Edmonton since 1949. Our mission is “through our programs and services we work to prevent crime and to help people affected by crime”.

101st Street Apartments is a Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) for high risk adult males, with various psychiatric disorders, physical disabilities and brain injuries, who are on release in the community under the authority of Parole Board Canada. The Nurse is an important part of the multidisciplinary treatment team with Edmonton John Howard Society (EJHS) at 101st Street Apartments and contributes knowledge; expertise and experience to the successful treatment of a high risk, high need client base.

The Nurse will work Monday through Friday during daytime hours, up to 18 hours per week at $42 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in weekly clinics (with the client and Psychiatrist every Wedneday morning), case conferences, unit meetings, and individual client meetings as required
  • Develop wellness plans as required
  • Adapt services to meet the needs of diverse populations as per unit policy
  • Completion of accurate written daily documentation (log entries, contact notes, incident reports, medication book entries)
  • To provide the best possible service in terms of support, risk management and community referrals for each resident
  • Liaise all medication changes, concerns between the Psychiatrist, Pharmacy, client and CBRF
  • Address all psychiatrc and medical concerns that clients have

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing
  • Current Registration with CARNA in the Province of Alberta
  • Must have valid CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Previous clinical experience in psychiatric mental health nursing with knowledge, skill and ability in assessments, treatment and evaluation of clients.
  • Broad knowledge of mental health assessment and psychopharmacology
  • Knowledge and skills relating to crisis intervention and ability to in the application of non-violent crisis intervention
  • Experience and knowledge of the care and treatment of dual diagnosis clients
  • Broad knowledge of the care and treatment of common chronic physical illnesses and disabilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge base of major mental health disorders and treatments
  • Knowledge of relevant health care legislation and the Criminal Code of Canada, as it pertains to mentally disordered offenders.
