Edmonton John Howard Society (EJHS) is a CARF accredited, community based not for profit crime prevention agency that has been operating in Edmonton since 1949. Our mission is “through our programs and services we work to prevent crime and to help people affected by crime”.

101st Street Apartments is a Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) for high risk adult males, with various psychiatric disorders, physical disabilities and brain injuries, who are on release in the community under the authority of Parole Board Canada. The Part Time Shift Worker assists offenders in identifying and solving the practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community. Part time shift workers are responsible for the general operation of the facility as well as assisting full time caseworkers with basic caseload management.

We are seeking a Part Time Shift Worker to support 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm and 11pm–7am shifts, 7 days per week, holidays. The starting pay is $17 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of services in a client centred, strength based approach
  • Contribute to the management of high risk, high needs client base by being member of multidisciplinary team
  • Ensure services are being delivered in accordance with Agency Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain a safe, secure and clean environment
  • Participate in Unit Staff Meetings
  • Utilize mediation/motivational interviewing skills as necessary
  • Conduct intake interviews and assessments
  • Completion of accurate written daily documentation (log book entries, contact notes, incident reports, medication book entries)

Qualifications:

  • Some post-secondary required
  • Able to work shift work including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts
  • Must be available for a minimum of six shifts per month (if needed), two of which may be overnights
  • Criminal Record Check, Enhanced Reliability Screening and Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Experience working with offender population
  • Knowledge of the federal justice system
  • Strong communication and pro-social relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a mental health population
  • Ability to understand the dynamics of offenders behavior and assess their needs and risks
