Edmonton John Howard Society (EJHS) is a CARF accredited, community based not for profit crime prevention agency that has been operating in Edmonton since 1949. Our mission is “through our programs and services we work to prevent crime and to help people affected by crime”.

Journey Home is a new program for individuals that have been given a Not Criminally Responsible Disposition (NCR). Staff onsite provide supervision and support in a safe, stable environment to help residents gradually re-adjust to the community after living in a secure hospital setting.

101st Street Apartments is a Community Based Residential Treatment Facility providing service to adult males under the authority of the Parole Board Canada. These individuals have been deemed a higher risk, higher need, have various psychiatric diagnosis and/or physical disabilities.

Independence Apartments is a Community Based Residential Facility providing service to adult males under the authority of the Parole Board Canada. At both 101 and IA, the goal is to aid in the transition between incarceration and community living.

As a Community Liaison/Recreation Worker, you will be responsible for outings, activities, assisting residents with getting to appointments and teaching basic living skills.

The position will be 40 hours a week and you will be required to work some evenings. The starting annual salary is $45,000. The position will commence as soon as the appropriate candidate is found.

Responsibilities:

  • Accompanying residents from Journey Home, 101st Street Apartments and Independence Apartments on organized activities, outings, appointments
  • Teaching basic living skills such as cooking, cleaning, taking public transportation
  • Work collaboratively with the Case Management Team/Treatment Team
  • Assisting residents locate, access and utilize appropriate community resources

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in related human services filed with related experience
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts – including day time and evenings
  • Clear Criminal Record Check, Enhanced Reliability Screening and valid First Aid/CPR, driver’s abstract
  • Flexibility to work an on-call rotation
  • Strong communication and pro-social relationship building skills
  • Must have a valid drivers license, reliable vehicle, 2 million liability insurance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a mental health population
