Edmonton John Howard Society (EJHS) is a CARF accredited, community based not for profit crime prevention agency that has been operating in Edmonton since 1949. Our mission is “through our programs and services we work to prevent crime and to help people affected by crime”.


The Community Case Management and Supervision (CCMS) program is a national program being delivered for the Canada Border Services of Canada in part by John Howard Societies across the country.  It is a risk-based community release program as an alternative to detention for immigrants involved in the criminal justice system.  The Edmonton John Howard Society would be responsible for delivering the program including eligibility assessment, enrolment, development of a case plan, assistance to address issues that may contribute to the risk of non-compliance with the community supervision plan, and compliance reviews.

The hours of work are 8:00AM-4:30PM, Monday-Friday. The starting salary is $45,000.00 – $48,000.00 per year.  Please note that training outside of Edmonton would take place on May 28, 2018.


  • Conduct interviews with individuals in detention
  • Complete standardized assessments to evaluate the client’s risk and needs
  • Develop and implement a plan to address risk factors and client goals
  • Maintain knowledge of and assist clients with referrals to appropriate community service agencies
  • Completes clear concise reports and documentation in a timely manner
  • Produce additional written reports and records as required Actively participate in program evaluation
  • Actively participate in program evaluation
  • Actively pursues and collaborates productively with partners in the work site
  • Communicates information and ideas clearly, concisely and respectfully during interactions with client, community program partners and other professionals
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Perform other duties as may be occasionally requested.


  • Diploma or Degree in Humans Services with a minimum of 2-5 years’ experience working within the adult justice system
  • Experience working within immigrant community
  • Experience working within a client centered approach
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • General computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Understand and practices the EJHS mission, vision, values and agency guiding principles
  • Criminal Record Check, Enhanced Reliability and Child Intervention Check
  • Valid Driver’s License, and a reliable vehicle with 2 million liability insurance

Additional Assets:

  • Fluent in English and French languages
  • Knowledge of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; familiarity with the Canada Border Services Canada’s authority to arrest, detain and remove individuals found inadmissible to Canada
  • Current First Aid/CPR
