Job Purpose:

The Community Safety Liaison is responsible for ensuring the safety of our Community and Staff by building a strong and respectful rapport with those we serve. This role will support the Director of Operations to effectively enact safety response procedures to create a welcoming sense of community within and around the Community Centre. The Community Safety Liaison works closely with BSCS staff and First Responders to coordinate emergency response or incident investigations.

The hours of work are: Monday-Friday working 8:30AM-5:00PM for 37.5 hours/week.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a welcoming, safe, service-oriented environment
  • Building rapport with clients and deliver excellent customer service to staff, clients and visitors.
  • Responsible for conducting a daily tour (interior and exterior) of the Community Centre facility in an effort to monitor activity and assess potential risks -respond to provide proactive interventions to potential incidents.
  • Respond effectively to verbal and physical confrontation in and around the building by diffusing escalated situations and disturbances in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Ensuring those clients that are barred do not gain access into the building.
  • Work closely with staff within the Reception area and Concierge by providing relevant updates and responding to barred individuals who have entered.
  • Understanding and implementing Emergency Response policy and practices.
  • Administer first aid when required.
  • Write reports of daily activities and any irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or critical incidents during shifts.
  • Carry out any other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent. Candidates who are without a diploma, but have relevant and related experience will also be considered.

Skills, Abilities and Attitudes:

  • Excellent customer service skills and enthusiastic interaction with staff and community members.
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and individuals from diverse cultures.
  • Understands the challenges and barriers facing people who live in poverty.
  • Ability to problem-solve with people who face emotional and psychological challenges using a trauma informed practice
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel in particular).
  • Previous experience within a security, asset protection, safety or hospitality environment is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to professionally engage with members of the public and staff.
  • Ability to treat people with respect and in a sensitive manner, even in difficult or tense situations.
  • Possess robust mental and physical health with a commitment to self-care.
  • Physically capable of spending hours walking, standing, climbing stairs
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds if necessary

Experience:

  • Valid first aid certification
  • Community Development, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other related experience.
  • Security License (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety
  • Criminal Record and Child and Youth Information Systems check are required by the successful applicant prior to work commencement

Hourly Wage Range: $20.32 – $23.91 per hour
