Job Purpose:

The 24/7 Crisis Diversion Program Manager is responsible for providing leadership and supervision to a team of 12 full-time staff who collectively work 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.

The frontline workers respond to calls to assist individuals, many of whom are homeless or marginally housed, who are in a crisis situation, often related to intoxication or mental health concerns. Workers must assess situations, identify required needs, and transport individuals to appropriate services.

The Boyle Street Crisis Diversion team is part of a partnership involving REACH Edmonton, the Canadian Mental Health Association and Hope Mission, and works closely with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Edmonton Police Service (EPS). Collaboration is a key component of this position.

The Manager has the responsibility and authority to create, plan, develop, manage, coordinate and evaluate the delivery of the Crisis Diversion program within the framework of the partnership, and ensures that the guiding values of Boyle Street Community Services are upheld in all activities undertaken by the Crisis Diversion team.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing leadership that will create and maintain a motivated and competent team.
  • Overseeing the management of effective systems for crisis response, de-escalation, and integration with existing service provision.
  • Managing fiscal and human resources allocated to the program.
  • Maintaining a strong collaboration with internal partners and liaising with key external stakeholders including community organizations, property/business owners and government entities.
  • Contributing to the agency’s management team.
  • Ensuring that the Crisis Diversion program meets contractual targets and aligns with the agency’s values.
  • Producing reports in accordance with contractual obligations and managing program evaluation.
  • Ensuring effective communication and coordination with other Boyle Street programs.
  • Coordinating staff schedules and the availability of casual staff to ensure the program operates on a 24/7 basis.

Qualifications:

Education:

A Degree in related field is preferred, however, candidates without a Degree but who have post-secondary education and relevant, related experience will also be considered.

Skills, Abilities and Attitudes:

  • A strong commitment to collaboration and working closely with internal partners and external stakeholders.
  • Superior supervisory and mentoring abilities with front-line workers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to build an environment that supports a relationship-based, client-centered practice that supports vulnerable people who are in crisis.
  • Ability to manage diverse teams and to provide positive leadership.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to manage the Efforts To Outcomes database.
  • Ability to work with the greater community and various organizations.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience as a manager supervising staff
  • Experience networking with a range of partners.
  • Experience working within a team as part of a multi-disciplinary organization.
  • Knowledge of issues of homelessness in Edmonton, including an understanding of poverty, its causes and effects.
  • Experience working with Indigenous and New Canadian communities.
  • A valid Class 5 license and a reliable vehicle are required.
  • Criminal Record and Child Intervention Checks (results will be reviewed on a case by case basis)
